*Phew!* It has been quite an eventful few days. After the excitements of Sunday night we were back to the doctor on Monday afternoon for a follow up appointment! Her doctor agreed that she looks fantastic and was surprised that something was wrong. We talked about possibilities of how the bladder infection (which they were positive was the problem at this point) even happened because she shouldn't have gotten an infection, being so little. The two main possibilities are kidney malfunction or urinary reflux. (Meaning that the urine flows backwards from the bladder, through the ureter, into the kidneys.) Her pediatrician prescribed an antibiotic to help with her infection and had his nurse set us an appointment at Primary Children's hospital to have the kidney ultrasound and ANOTHER catheder test done... poor baby...
So today we were off again! This morning Jake and I drove to Primary Children's and checked into the radiology department. The kidney ultrasound went well and they made some comment about her ureters being a bit large. The catheder test was not a fun but Abrielle was such a good girl and only grunted at the nurses instead of crying. The doctor came in to confirm that she does indeed have urinary reflux. They rank it on a scale from 1 to 5 (5 being the worst) and Abrielle is a 2 or 3. So not severe.
Now what? Well we wait for the official urine sample culture to come back so that they can determine the bacteria we are dealing with and make sure we have the antibiotic, and then we have her go on a mild antibiotic for six months to see if she grows out of the reflux. Meaning? We go back to Primary children's for another catheder test in 6 months... poor baby...
BUT! Now we know what is going on, we can watch for any signs of another bladder infection, and we can take the measures necessary to keep this little baby healthy and happy! Hurray!

I know it can be hard when your child is not well. Just remember to be strong and use each other and family for support.
