RunnerCross 5K Mud Run

Today was an awesome day! We got to participate in a 5k Mud Run. It was the first time Jake or I had ever done a 5k and it was a blast. We met with our team (Team Too Awesome!), checked in and hung out for a while before the run started. It was a crazy, muddy obstacle course and they made sure to drench us with a fire house right from the very start. It was held on a Motocross track and so there were big muddy hills and dips with big puddles at the bottom. The best/hardest part was the "barbed" wire that you had to army crawl under through a half foot of mud. After escaping from the clutches of that beast you were so covered in mud that we were constantly hiking up our clothes to keep them from falling off! It is one thing to run three miles... but it is an entirely different experience to run three miles, through mud, doing an obstacle course, weighing a LOT more than you normally do because you are soaking wet and caked in mud. I want to do a "normal" 5k soon but this one was such a fun one to start with.

The whole thing took us about 1 hour 16 minutes to complete - and that included waiting in long lines at the obstacle courses. I think that our best lap was 20 minutes.

After the race they had bananas and watermelon - HAPPY DAY! It was great fuel after the run. We "washed" up in some more fire houses and the wind was blowing pretty hard. We were freezing cold and very grateful that they gave us new shirts that we changed into after we wiped down quite a bit. They had an area to donate shoes at and Jake and Mike both donated their old, muddy shoes. They are going to wash them up and donate them.

Our teammate, Amy, took the "before" pictures but she got injured on the track and had to leave early to seek medical attention (get better soon Amy!); however, we did get some "after" pictures:

Jake's best friend, Mike, and our brother-in-law, Matt, showing off their muddy muscles!

Jake got to clean up before we did since he was helping Amy seek medical attention but that was no excuse for not getting kisses!

I loved being able to do this run with my sister, Alyssa. She did such a great job (it was her first 5k) too. We had a blast together!

Matt and Alyssa are so cute together. I love that they came and did this with us.

Team Too Awesome! Minus Jake (who was taking the picture) and Amy (who was tending to her wounds).

Mike just being awesome! :-)
